Bayonne, NJ (August 30, 2019) – On August 28, the Bayonne Fire Department responded to the scene of a major accident at the International-Matex Tank Terminals plant located at 2 Commerce Street.

According to reports, just after 3 p.m., emergency crews met with the IMTT Fire Department regarding an industrial plant accident.

For unknown reasons, sodium hydroxide leaked out at the plant. Five individuals on-site suffered chemical burns and were provided medical care on the scene. The injured victims were later transported to area hospitals for further medical treatment.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation at this time.
