New York Structure Fires

Bronx, NY - Three Injured in House Fire on E 201st StSome of the leading causes of residential fires, such as apartment and house fires, include:

  • Faulty appliances
  • Outdated electrical wiring
  • Damaged or improperly installed gas lines
  • Clogged chimney flues
  • Defective boilers or furnaces

In addition to proving the source of the fire, it is necessary to establish if the action or inaction of a third party played a part in the cause of the fire itself or an occupant’s inability to safely escape the residence.

If it is decided that a fire or the inability to safely respond to one was the fault of a third party, an injured victim might have a legitimate claim against the negligent company or individual.

Some common factors that a fire injury attorney in New York will investigate are whether or not :

  • The manager or owner of the property adhered to current fire and building codes
  • Proper fire safety tools and equipment were on site
  • Fireplaces and vents were adequately maintained
  • Fire escapes and exits were available and functioning
  • Fire doors were being used
  • Smoke detectors were correctly installed, tested, and working
  • Firewalls were properly built and placed
