New York Traffic Collisions
Traffic collisions occur hundreds of thousands of times throughout New York each year. On average, the state sees more than 300,000 reported traffic crashes annually. Of these incidents, hundreds of thousands of people sustain injuries and thousands end up losing their lives. Throughout the United States, auto collisions have become the main cause of serious injuries and death. They are behind around 3 million injuries and approximately 40,000 fatalities annually. These numbers are high, however, the most alarming fact stemming from these wrecks is not how often they occur, but the reason they occur.
Across the United States, most of the auto collisions that take place happen because of negligent driving. Countless forms of negligent driving exist, however, distraction, intoxication, and speeding are at the top of the list of reasons why most car crashes happen in the US today. For example, more than 400,000 reported auto crashes happen per year due to the actions of distracted drivers. Additionally, more than 11,000 people die in speeding accidents, and, intoxication causes around 12,000 annual deaths.
These types of dangerous incidents are totally preventable if only drivers stay aware, alert, and sober while behind the wheels of their vehicles. Car accidents cause more injuries and fatalities than gun violence every single year. Because driving is such a commonplace activity carried out by millions of American citizens across the nation each day, it may be easy to forget how truly dangerous it is. The chance of becoming involved in an accident, according to a large insurance company, is about one crash in 366 out of every 1,000 miles driven.
