New York Pedestrian Accidents

Brooklyn, NY - Pedestrian Injured in Crash on 86th St near 5th AvePedestrians, unfortunately, sustain injuries in traffic accidents all the time. Often, they suffer injuries that can be extremely painful and even debilitating, keeping them from living their lives or going to work. This can be extremely problematic, stressful, and depressing for injured victims as well as their loved ones. The only thing worse than being seriously hurt in a crash is losing someone you love. Sadly, in the United States, approximately 5,000 people lose their lives per year in pedestrian accidents.

When you travel as a pedestrian, whether you are riding a bike, walking, or riding a scooter, it is extremely important to pay close attention to your surroundings and make sure you keep an eye out for vehicles of all kinds. Additionally, wearing light/reflective clothing at night is a smart move. Drivers should make sure to keep their eyes peeled for pedestrians of all sorts, as well, so as to not become involved in an accident. Also, motorists and pedestrians alike need to stay aware, alert, awake, and sober at all times in order to avoid accidents from occurring and to keep the roadways as safe as possible for everyone.

Unfortunately, most pedestrian wrecks that happen in the state of New York and across the United States are completely preventable. More than half of the reported pedestrian crashes in the United States are caused by drivers who are negligent while operating their vehicles. Some of the most common forms of driver negligence displayed among American drivers include:

  • Intoxication
  • Distraction
  • Fatigue
  • Speeding

These types of negligence all have one thing in common: they all start with making a choice to operate a vehicle irresponsibly.  Decisions of this nature are dangerous and selfish and could cost someone their life.

When you or a loved one have been hurt in a pedestrian crash caused by a negligent driver, you may find yourself stuck recovering in the hospital at home where you are unable to go back to work or spend time with your loved ones. You may be unable to make ends meet financially, which can be extremely stressful, especially if you are the breadwinner of your family. A pedestrian crash lawyer in Brooklyn can help you file a personal injury claim for financial compensation so you can get the funds you need to cover all of the costs that may be stemming from your accident.
