New Jersey Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcycle accidents often result in severe injuries for those involved in them. Motorcyclists travel with little to no protection against the force of fast-moving, heavy vehicles if they become involved in collisions, which can prove to be extremely dangerous and even deadly, depending on the severity of the incident. In New Jersey, in 2020, over 1,500 motorcycle crashes were reported. More than 1,100 of these resulted in injuries, while 74 were fatal. Throughout the nation, over 5,000 people lost their lives in motorcycle accidents. That same year, over 80,000 people were hurt in motorcycle crashes across the United States.
Motorcyclists are lawfully required to obtain insurance that can be used if they become involved in a traffic collision. The insurance policies held by motorcyclists usually cover injured victims in a crash up to $25,000. The policy minimum is $50,000 if the collision turns out to be fatal, and $100,000 is required if two or more people end up losing their lives.
Additionally, motorcyclists are able to purchase supplemental Uninsured Motorist or underinsured motorist insurance plans. These offer up to $250,000 per person per collision and $500,000 when two or more people get hurt. Due to these demands, those who get hurt in motorcycle crashes may be able to collect financial compensation from the insurance company.
