Motorcycle Accidents in Chatham

Chatham, NJ - Motorcyclist Clings to Life After Truck Accident at N. Passaic Ave and Harvard St

Unfortunately, New Jersey’s no-fault laws do not apply to motorcyclists because motorcycles do not fall under the definition of a motor vehicle. Due to this, bikers injured in accidents are not entitled to the lost income and medical benefits afforded to the victims of motor vehicle accidents.

New Jersey state law requires motorcycle operators to carry insurance in the likely event they are injured in an accident. Riders must purchase an insurance policy that covers each person injured in an accident up to $15,000. $30,000 is the policy minimum in case someone involved in the accident dies, and $60,000 is required in case of two or more fatalities in a single accident.

In addition to this, motorcyclists can purchase supplemental UM/UIM insurance plans. These provide up to $250,000 per person per accident and $500,000 for injuries to two or more people. Due to these restrictive insurance demands, victims injured during a motorcycle accident might be eligible to collect financial compensation from their insurance company.
