Clarkstown, N.Y. – Man Dies After Being Hit by Vehicle on I-87

Clarkstown, N.Y. (July 17, 2019) – A man has died after he was involved in an accident with a vehicle at a late hour, according to authorities. The fatal New York pedestrian accident occurred on Tuesday night around 11:43 p.m. on I-87 at mile marker 20.5.

Polao of Cortlandt Manor, was driving his vehicle on the northbound side of I-87 when his vehicle was struck by a second vehicle. Polao pulled over onto the left shoulder following the accident and then attempted to cross the street when he was hit by a BMW that was being driven by 53-year-old Zarita M. Holness of Washingtonville.

Polao was taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries where he was later pronounced deceased by medical professionals. Police checked Holness for impairment after the accident but did not see any indications of being impaired. Holness was not injured in the accident.
