Edison, NJ (August 12, 2022) – A woman died and several others were injured during a seven-vehicle collision on Saturday, August 6th in the southbound lanes of Route 1.
At about 9:20 p.m., a Honda Civic driven by 41-year-old Gaurav Patel, a resident of Philadelphia, crashed into the back of another car at a traffic light on Route 1 at the entrance to Edison Town Square. The impact pushed the struck vehicle into the northbound lane where it collided head-on with a Honda Accord driven by 34-year-old local resident Catherine Yeboah.
Yeboah was transported by ambulance to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where she passed away.
Two passengers in Yeboah’s car, a six-year-old girl and a three-year-old girl, sustained major but non-life-threatening injuries. Two 19-year-old males in the second vehicle were similarly injured.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Ms. Catherine Yeboah, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
Rear-End Accidents in New Jersey
Accidents that involve three or more vehicles can stem from a single rear-end accident. These accidents are known as pile-up or chain-reaction accidents. They often take place when the second vehicle collides with the back of the first, setting off a domino effect of successive rear-end collisions.
Rear-end accidents are one of the most common kinds of car accidents throughout the state.
Although rear-end accidents are often thought of as trivial, many of them cause serious injuries to the occupants of the car that was hit from behind. These kinds of accidents usually result in serious neck and back injuries which can be crippling and negatively impact victims for the rest of their lives.
