New Jersey Tractor-Trailer Collisions
The state of New York is home to millions of people. Additionally, numerous individuals travel through the state for business or pleasure. Sadly, approximately 1,000 individuals are killed per year due to auto collisions throughout the state. Thousands more sustain injuries, usually due to the actions of negligent drivers.
The majority of auto accidents are not caused by the high volume of traffic in the state nor the bad weather experienced in the Northeastern region. Instead, most accidents are the result of driver negligence/error.
Errors made by drivers who cause auto collisions usually include:
- Speeding, which entails driving at speeds too fast for current conditions or simply exceeding the posted speed limit. The NHTSA states that speeding is extremely hazardous and poses threats such as the reduced ability to stop in a timely manner and reduced reaction time.
- Distractions such as cell phones, other people inside the car, pets, kids, alcohol, smoking, daydreaming, eating, putting on makeup, etc.
- Intoxication greatly impairs a driver’s ability to safely judge a situation, see their immediate surroundings, respond in a timely manner to emergency situations, and pay attention to road conditions, signs, etc.
- Failing to yield the right-of-way usually results in auto accidents at intersections.
- Aggressive driving is generally displayed as speeding, improper lane changes, tailgating, and running stop signs and red lights.
