Egg Harbor Twp., NJ (May 19, 2025) – A weekend collision at a local Egg Harbor Township intersection has turned tragic, ending in the death of a juvenile and injuries to others.
On Saturday, May 17, authorities were called to Delaware Avenue at the intersection of Fernwood Avenue after reports of a serious two-vehicle crash. According to the Egg Harbor Township Police Department, the accident involved a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2022 Mini Cooper.
The initial investigation found that the Camaro, driven by 71-year-old Gary Battisti of Egg Harbor Township, was heading east on Delaware Avenue. As Battisti approached Fernwood Avenue, the Mini Cooper, driven by 19-year-old Sky Mejiadorado, entered the intersection from the north.
The force of the impact resulted in multiple injuries and claimed the life of a juvenile passenger. Emergency crews arrived on the scene quickly, treating the injured and transporting them to nearby hospitals. The exact number of individuals hospitalized and the extent of their injuries has not been released. Authorities have not confirmed whether charges will be filed, and the investigation remains ongoing as they work to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal impact.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly, and we extend our condolences to the family mourning the loss of their loved one.
Car Accidents in New Jersey

Understanding how these crashes impact victims can help us better grasp the real-life toll of these tragedies. Below are some of the most common injuries sustained in New Jersey crashes:
- Whiplash and Neck Strain: A sudden stop or side-impact can violently jolt a person’s head, leading to painful whiplash. Recovery may require therapy and can last weeks or months, even in seemingly “minor” accidents.
- Broken Bones: Collisions often result in fractures, especially in the arms, legs, ribs, or hips. These injuries can severely limit mobility and often require surgical repair and long-term rehabilitation.
- Head Injuries: From concussions to traumatic brain injuries, head trauma is especially concerning. Even mild TBIs can affect concentration, memory, and emotional regulation.
- Spinal Cord Injuries: Accidents that damage the spine can lead to partial or full paralysis. These life-altering injuries demand intensive treatment and long-term support.
- Emotional Trauma: Beyond physical wounds, survivors may suffer anxiety, depression, or PTSD. Recovery often includes counseling and emotional support to process the shock and grief.
