Even when injuries are first described as minor, waiting to seek medical care can create gaps that insurance companies later use against an injured person. Adjusters usually argue that if treatment wasn't immediate, the harm may not be connected to the crash. This is one reason documentation collected in the days right after a crash can matter as much as the initial injury itself.
Soft-tissue injuries and whiplash are common examples of harm that isn't always obvious right away, and they can take days to fully present. Under New Jersey law, injury claims generally depend on medical evidence that clearly ties the harm to the case at hand, which makes early documentation especially important.
It can be difficult to build this kind of medical record for someone who is still recovering. In these cases, a car accident lawyer can help by coordinating with medical providers, requesting complete records, and making sure any pause in care is explained rather than held against the injured person.
