Hackensack, NJ – Two Killed, Two Hurt in Chain Reaction Crash on I-80
Hackensack, NJ (May 22, 2024) – Two people lost their lives and two others were seriously hurt after a multi-vehicle collision occurred on I-80 in Bergen County.
The crash occurred at around 11:30 p.m. near milepost 66.6 when a Toyota SUV struck the curbed median, entered the express lanes, and struck a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer then collided with the center concrete median and drove into the westbound express lanes, where it crashed into a box truck. The box truck then caught fire in the westbound local lanes of I-80, taking the lives of the two passengers traveling inside the vehicle. Their identities have not been reported at this time. The driver of the semi-truck, identified as a man from Temple, Texas, age 63, along with one passenger, a man from Killeen, Texas, age 60, sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Two people in the box truck were also injured. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while emergency crews were present. Police continue to investigate.
