Injuries Reported After Two-Vehicle Crash on I-80 in Rockaway Twp, NJ

September 9, 2026

Rockaway Township, NJ (September 9, 2026) – Two drivers were hurt Monday night, September 7, after their cars collided on Interstate 80 and veered into the woods along the highway in Morris County.

New Jersey State Police were alerted to Interstate 80 west near milepost 34.7 at about 8:17 p.m. A preliminary investigation found that a Hyundai sedan and a Nissan sedan came together on the roadway, which caused the Hyundai to flip onto its roof.

Both vehicles then left the highway and traveled into a wooded area beside Interstate 80. The injuries reported were minor, but it is not clear what the full scope is.

The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.

We hope both drivers make a full recovery.

Who Can Be Held Liable for a Multi-Vehicle Incident on I-80 in Rockaway Township, NJ?Injuries Reported After Two-Vehicle Crash on I-80

In New Jersey, liability after a multi-vehicle highway event typically depends on comparative negligence principles under state law. This rule allows drivers found even partially at fault to still recover damages, though their compensation is reduced by their percentage of fault.

Drivers involved in this kind of highway crash can be left dealing with injuries such as whiplash, concussions, or trauma. All these injuries can require extended physical therapy that prevents drivers from continuing with their day-to-day activities.

The recovery process can include costs like emergency room visits, follow-up specialist care, and missed time from work. These expenses can add up quickly, especially when more than one insurance company is involved.

New Jersey requires all registered vehicles to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage, which typically covers initial medical costs regardless of who caused the collision.

Many people turn to a car accident lawyer who can review the details of their case and help determine whether it should stay within the no-fault system or move toward a third-party liability claim against another driver, depending on how serious the injuries are and what the policy limits allow.

At Metro Law, we can help drivers in New Jersey learn how their case develops under state law and what next steps to take.
