Seeking prompt medical attention is one of the most important steps after a car accident in Hillsdale, NJ, even when injuries seem minor at first. Symptoms like head pain, dizziness, or stiffness can take hours or days to fully develop, and an early medical record helps document that the injury is connected to what happened.
If you wait too long to see a doctor, it can also give an insurer room to argue the injury was unrelated or less serious than claimed.
To document the aftermath matters just as much as getting treatment. Photos of vehicle damage, the surrounding roadway, and any visible injuries can help establish what happened before conditions change.
Additionally, to get contact information from witnesses and requesting a copy of the police report are also useful steps, since memories fade and some records aren't kept indefinitely.
Under most New Jersey auto policies, you are required to notify an insurance company promptly, and delays can sometimes complicate a PIP claim. New Jersey is a no-fault state, PIP is generally the first source of coverage for medical bills regardless of who caused the accident, though it doesn't always cover the full cost of treatment.
After a crash, victims can benefit from the guidance of a car accident lawyer that can review a policy's PIP limits, communicate with the insurance company, and determine whether a claim exists beyond what PIP alone provides.
