Economic Damages in New Jersey Motorcycle Settlements

Kearny, NJ - Yasmin Dinizper and Thiago Campos Killed in Motorcycle Crash at Schuyler Ave and Quincy Pl

Economic damages act as compensation for objectively verifiable monetary losses. These damages are awarded based on your economic “injuries” following an accident. This settlement award includes your lost income and anticipated lost income during the course of your treatment and rehabilitation. The total expense of your medical cost, both immediate and anticipatory, is also included in your economic damages.

Examples of medical costs include:

  • Medical bills
  • Doctor co-pays
  • Occupational or physical therapists
  • Transportation to and from necessary appointments

As your medical bills and other damages become more expensive, settlement negotiations become more complex, and it becomes increasingly important that you retain the services of a New Jersey motorcycle collision lawyer who can skillfully act as your representative. With a high-value claim backed by a reputable attorney, an insurance adjuster is more likely to take you seriously, which makes it much easier to secure full financial compensation.

If you were severely injured, your settlement offer ought to include remuneration for any current and projected medical needs.

Calculating a victim’s forthcoming damages is complicated and usually hinges on expert opinion and testimony. Hiring a motorcycle crash attorney to deal with these things is always in your best interests, particularly in cases involving critical or permanent injuries.

Some common examples of anticipated economic damages include:

  • Projected medical expenses
  • Projected nursing care expenses
  • Projected lost wages /Diminished earning capacity
  • The projected expense of paying for household duties you are no longer able to perform

One of the many reasons it is crucial that you never accept an early settlement offer, especially one that is unfairly low, is that you need to learn the full extent of your damages and that takes time.

If you have lost a family member in a motorcycle crash, we are prepared to assist you with that as well. Based on your relationship to the victim, you may be entitled to file a claim of wrongful death against the at-fault driver.
