Manchester, NJ – Senior Citizen in Critical Condition After Being Hit by Car Outside Shoprite

Manchester, NJ (February 23, 2022) – An elderly woman was critically injured after she was struck by a car in a parking lot on Wednesday, February 23rd at about 8:50 a.m.

Upon their arrival, officers located 87-year-old Marie Ryerson, a resident of Whiting, lying injured in the middle of the parking lot aisle at the Route 70 ShopRite.

Ryerson sustained injuries on the righthand side of her body as well as potentially severe internal injuries. She was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for medical treatment. Her current condition is listed as critical but stable.

An investigation determined that a Chevrolet Trax was making a lefthand turn out of a parking space when it struck Ryerson who was heading towards the store.

Officials believe driver error is the primary contributing factor to the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
