New York Pedestrian Accidents
When pedestrians are hurt in traffic accidents, they usually end up with injuries that are serious or even devastating. These injuries can force them into the hospital, out of work, and bring a lot of pain and suffering into their lives. Overall, being hurt in a pedestrian collision is never, ever easy, and is often followed by a lengthy recovery process.
In May of 2022, the pedestrian fatality rate in the United States reached higher than it has been in the past four decades. The majority of reported pedestrian accident deaths occur near intersections, in urban areas, and at night. On average, individuals aged 55-64 are most often struck by vehicles.
Around 6,500 pedestrians are killed annually in the United States. In the state of New York specifically, thousands of individuals are hurt in pedestrian collisions yearly, and hundreds end up losing their lives. Approximately 8% of reported auto collisions in the Empire State involve pedestrians, with approximately 7,500 pedestrian collisions occurring every year.
Unfortunately, the majority of these collisions are caused by the actions of negligent drivers. Driver negligence is behind over 93% of auto collisions reported in the United States today. When innocent drivers, passengers, and pedestrians are hurt due to the actions of negligent drivers, they usually qualify for compensation that can help them recover.
