Manhattan, NY – One Killed, Four Hurt in Collision on E 21st St near Third Ave

Manhattan, NY (June 5, 2023) – One person lost their life, and four others were injured in a car accident in Manhattan on Sunday evening, June 4. Responders went to the scene at around 7:30 p.m. after receiving calls concerning the incident. 

The wreck occurred at the intersection of East 21st Street and Third Avenue in Gramercy Park, the New York Police Department reports. The vehicle was traveling north on Third Avenue when the driver crashed. 

One 23-year-old male pedestrian lost his life, while a 26-year-old female pedestrian was sent to the hospital in critical condition. A 21-year-old male pedestrian, as well as an 18-year-old e-bike rider were both sent to the hospital with significant injuries.

After crashing into the pedestrians, the car then collided with a LinkNYC kiosk on the sidewalk, where it stopped. The driver was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter, manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and assault, authorities said. 

Police in Manhattan continue to investigate the details of the accident.
