Mantua Twp, NJ – Young Boy Killed, Three Hospitalized in Accident on Rt 55 near milepost 52.9
Mantua Twp, NJ (May 31, 2023) – An 8-year-old lost his life, and three others sustained serious injuries in a South Jersey car accident on Saturday, May 27. Shortly before 2:00 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of a crash on Route 55.
According to reports, the wreck occurred near milepost 52.9 on Route 55. Initial investigations reveal that a Subaru was headed north on the highway when it hit the driver’s side of a Honda before losing control.
The Subaru then struck an overpass abutment and caught on fire, sources say. An 8-year-old was killed in the crash, and three others were injured. Two adults and one other minor were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The left lane of Route 55 North was closed for approximately 6 hours, causing significant delays in traffic.
