Passenger Injuries in New Jersey

It is not unusual for the person liable for a passenger-injury accident to be the driver of the car in which they were riding. For example, the driver may be a spouse, relative, or co-worker of the injured passenger. The victim could also be a neighbor or a good friend. As long as the two parties are not on the same insurance policy, the victim has a valid claim.

If you were injured as a passenger in a car accident, you are entitled to pursue financial compensation for your medical costs and other damages just as an injured driver would be. This is true no matter the cause of your accident, whether it was driver negligence, vehicle defect, or a road hazard.

Filing a claim of personal injury against a relative or a friend may be uncomfortable but passengers are entitled to pursue economic recovery when their injuries were caused by another person’s negligence. In many cases, the negligent driver’s insurance will cover the damages.

When passengers are injured in car accidents caused by the reckless actions of other drivers, they should contact a car accident attorney as soon as possible to protect their legal rights.
