Newark, NJ – 5-Year-Old Girl Killed in Hit & Run on 6th Ave W near N 9th St

Newark, NJ (February 2, 2023) – A 5-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in Newark. It happened on the evening of Tuesday, January 31. Police said the accident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Reports from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office concerning the incident show it occurred at the intersection of 6th Avenue West and North 9th Street. The girl’s younger sister and father were hospitalized with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. 

The family was struck at the intersection for reasons still being investigated by police. No one involved has been identified at this time.
