Newark, NJ – Firefighter Injured in Fire Incident on S 11th St

Newark, NJ (July 31, 2020) – A fire incident reported in the Newark area left one firefighter injured early Thursday morning. Just before 2:40 a.m., on July 30, the Newark Fire Department responded to the scene of a fire incident at 258 South 11st Street.

Reports from firefighters show that a fire broke out in a three-story, wood-framed building for unknown reasons. The fire spread in the basement and throughout all three floors of the building. One firefighter sustained injuries while battling the blaze and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Two people were located inside the structure by firefighters and removed without incident. Within 50-minutes, firefighters were able to take control of the situation. Fourteen people were displaced by the fire.

At this time, the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
