Officers Hurt in Crash After Pursuit in Jersey City, NJ

October 1, 2026

Jersey City, NJ (October 1, 2026) – Officers were injured Wednesday, September 30, when a vehicle fleeing a pursuit ended up in a wreck near a flower shop.

According to Jersey City Police, the vehicle entered the city that afternoon with officers following. After the crash, the vehicle was left heavily damaged.

Emergency units filled the street while officers secured the site. Reports indicated the pursuit began in New York City and continued through the Holland Tunnel, but that route has not been confirmed.

What prompted the pursuit, how the officers' injuries happened, and whether anyone else needed medical attention had not been made public.

The investigation remains active.

We wish the officers a steady recovery.

Workers' Compensation Benefits for Police Officers in Jersey City, NJOfficers Hurt in Crash After Pursuit

When a police officer is hurt while performing their duty in New Jersey, they are generally covered by the state's workers' compensation system, no matter who was at fault for the accident.

Benefits can include authorized medical treatment, temporary disability payments while an officer cannot work, and permanent disability payments if lasting limitations remain. Notice of the injury generally should reach the employer within 90 days. Additionally, a formal claim petition usually must be filed within two years of the injury date.

Some officers may qualify for more than a compensation claim. An officer who becomes permanently unable to perform the job because of a traumatic on-duty injury may be eligible to apply for accidental disability retirement through the state's police and fire retirement system.

It is important to note that this application is separate from a workers' compensation claim and has its own medical and filing requirements. Treatment records, work restrictions, and reports from the treating doctors typically carry significant weight in both processes.

A compensation claim does not always end the discussion. When someone outside the employment relationship, such as another driver or a vehicle owner, causes the harm, New Jersey law generally allows the officer to bring a separate personal injury claim against that party.

Whether that option exists depends on the facts, and the employer or its insurer may seek reimbursement from any recovery for benefits already paid. A workers' compensation attorney can review who may be liable, coordinate that claim with benefits already in place, and help preserve records before deadlines pass.
