Hackensack, NJ (September 8, 2026) – An accident involving at least two vehicles shut down all lanes on 1st Street at Passaic Street on Monday, September 7.
Hackensack Fire and emergency units responded and attended to those involved while officers directed nearby traffic during the closure.
At least one person was taken to a hospital by ambulance, though it remains unclear how many people were hurt overall.
All lanes have since reopened. It was not immediately clear what caused the multi-vehicle collision, and the investigation remains ongoing.
We wish everyone involved a full and steady recovery.

New Jersey operates under a no-fault insurance system, in which drivers first turn to their own personal injury protection coverage regardless of who caused a multi-vehicle accident.
Under the state's verbal threshold rule, an injured driver typically must show a qualifying injury before pursuing a lawsuit against another driver for pain and suffering.
People hurt in these cases can face ongoing physical therapy, missed work, and mounting medical bills that outlast the initial hospital visit. Soft-tissue injuries in particular can take weeks to fully surface, which is why it is important to document symptoms and visit doctors from the start.
When more than one vehicle is involved, it can get very complicated fast to sort out how fault is divided among all drivers. In these cases, many people rely on a car accident lawyer to help gather police reports, medical records, and witness statements to build a clearer picture of what happened.
