Hackensack, NJ (September 24, 2026) – A Hackensack man was hurt on Wednesday, September 23, when an older-model Nissan Rogue struck him early in the afternoon on River Street at University Plaza.
The 18-year-old driver, from Elmwood Park, was behind the wheel at one of Hackensack's busiest intersections.
According to Hackensack Police, he had head and back injuries. Emergency units gave him medical aid at the intersection, and he was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver received a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian. The investigation is still open.
We are thinking of him as he recovers.

In New Jersey, Personal Injury Protection, known as PIP, generally pays reasonable medical bills after a motor vehicle injury no matter who caused it. A person who owns an auto policy, or lives with someone who does, usually turns to that policy first. Someone with no policy in the household may be able to seek benefits from the insurer of the car that hit them.
The amount available depends on choices made when a policy was purchased. The default PIP limit in New Jersey is $250,000 per person, but policyholders can select lower limits, and some designate their health insurer as the primary payer for medical bills.
What shapes how smoothly a PIP claim moves tends to be documentation. Insurers may ask for claim forms, medical records, and treatment plans, and some treatments can require approval before they are covered.
PIP payments generally cover medical bills regardless of fault, but a claim for pain and suffering against a driver can depend on the lawsuit limitation option tied to the applicable policy. In such cases, a pedestrian accident attorney can review the policy language, help identify which insurer's coverage applies, and explain how PIP benefits fit alongside any claim for losses beyond those limits.
PIP rules can look different from one policy to the next, and reading them alone is not always simple. At Metro Law, we can walk through your coverage and explain which policy may apply to your specific situation.
