Pennsville, NJ – Kastarra Lawrence Killed, Driver Injured in Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer on NJ TpkNY/NJ Legal News
Pennsville, NJ (April 19, 2022) – One person was killed and another badly injured in a two-vehicle accident on the southern end of the New Jersey Turnpike on Monday, April 18th.
At about 4:30 a.m., a Ford F150 pick-up truck was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer towing a flatbed as they entered the southbound Exit 1 toll plaza. The truck then overturned, spilling the lumber from the flatbed all over the turnpike and leaving six of the toll lanes blocked for most of the morning commute.
The pick-up’s passenger, 23-year-old Kastarra Sha Quinta Lawrence, a resident of Augusta, GA., died from her injuries. The driver, 23-year-old Corey McKonnen Duncan Jr., also from Augusta, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The tractor-trailer operator sustained non-critical injuries.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Ms. Kastarra Lawrence, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.
Truck Accidents in New Jersey
In New Jersey, tractor-trailers and passenger vehicles share the roadways every day. Being involved in a tractor-trailer accident, however, is completely different from a regular car accident. Even a collision with even a small passenger vehicle can cause serious or even deadly injuries. The immense weight and size of a tractor-trailer, coupled with untrained or fatigued drivers, can easily result in a devastating accident.
It is understandable that victims assume their insurance company will take care of them, and why shouldn’t they? After all, you earnestly pay your premiums each month and ensure that your end of the bargain is upheld. You believed that, if you ever required financial assistance due to any kind of accident, they would step in and do their job.
Sadly, this is not usually the case. It’s important to keep in mind that insurance companies are for-profit businesses and paying you a lot of money, whether you are entitled to it or not, is not in their best interest. Their goal is to turn a profit and the equation they use to do that is a simple one: Collect as much money as possible via premiums, and pay as little as possible in claims.
