Ramapo, N.Y. – Motorcyclist and Officer Taken to Hospital Following Collision on Route 45

Ramapo, N.Y. (July 24, 2019) – A motorcyclist and a police officer were taken to local hospitals after they collided on a highway in front of a firehouse, according to authorities. The New York motorcycle accident occurred on Tuesday, around 9:30 p.m., on Route 45 in front of the Hillcrest firehouse.

Police have not released many details regarding this accident. It is known that the accident involved a motorcycle and a marked Ramapo police vehicle. It is not known how the accident occurred or if the police vehicle had its lights and sirens on before the accident occurred.

When Cars and Motorcycles Collide

Motorcycle accidents will often happen because vehicles do not see them before they pull out in front of them. When a vehicle does not see a motorcycle, they can end up causing an accident with that motorcycle by doing things like cutting the motorcycle off, running into them, swerving into their lane, and more. Motorcycles cannot avoid all of these incidents, and so it’s not surprising that an accident between a motorcycle and a car will occur eventually.
