Readington, NJ – Seth Newton and Gary Vondrasek Killed in Traffic Collision on Rt 22NY/NJ Legal News
Readington, NJ (March 10, 2022) – A tow truck operator was hit and killed by a vehicle whose driver later died after a collision in Readington Township on Tuesday, March 8th.
At about 3:00 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the scene on Route 22 in the area of the Phillips 66 Gas Station to provide traffic control for a tow truck operator attempting to extract a disabled vehicle from the center median cut-through.
The officer had shut down the lefthand lane on the eastbound side of the roadway so the driver of the wrecker, 26-year-old Seth Newton, a resident of Readington Township, could safely remove the damaged vehicle.
An investigation determined that a 2014 Cadillac Escalade driven by 86-year-old Gary Vondrasek, a resident of Lebanon, was heading westbound in the lefthand lane when he veered into the median, striking both the unoccupied vehicle and Newton.
Newton died at the scene.
Vondrasek was given lifesaving first-aid at the scene and then taken to RWJ University Hospital Somerset where he was also pronounced dead.
This accident is under investigation by the Readington Township Police Department and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Forensic Analysis Collision Team.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time.
