Ridgefield Park, NJ – Ralph McGillan Identified as Victim of Four-Car Pile-Up on NJ Tpk

Ridgefield Park, NJ (August 02, 2022) – A man from Florida died and four other people were injured on Monday, August 1st during a four-car collision on the New Jersey Turnpike in Bergen County.

The incident took place at about 11:35 a.m. on the northbound side of the turnpike near mile marker 117.8 in Ridgefield Park.

An investigation revealed that a Jeep experienced two flat tires after it struck unidentified debris in the roadway and became disabled on the lefthand shoulder.

As northbound traffic stalled near the crash site, a tractor-trailer crashed into the back of a Lincoln MKX, which then struck a Honda Odyssey. The Honda then collided with a concrete barrier and the disabled Jeep.

The driver of the Lincoln sustained serious injuries. The Lincoln’s passenger, 85-year-old Ralph McGillan, a resident of Fort Myers, FL., died on impact.

The two occupants of the Honda received non-critical injuries, as did the driver of the tractor-trailer.

The center and lefthand lanes of the turnpike were shut down for about an hour and a half, leading to moderate traffic delays.

The accident is under investigation.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Ralph McGillan, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Wrongful Deaths in New Jersey

Ridgefield Park, NJ - Ralph McGillan Identified as Victim of Four-Car Pile-Up on NJ Tpk

There are many hard decisions that must be made after the unexpected death of a loved one. Although choosing a respected wrongful death attorney is most likely not the first thing most grieving family members think about, it is an important step.

The person responsible for the death of your family member should be held accountable; a feat accomplished by seeking compensation for your damages and the safety of your economic future.

Wrongful death, according to New Jersey law, is any death caused by the default or the negligent or unlawful action of another. The purpose of a wrongful death claim is to hold the negligent person liable and obtain a fair economic recovery for the victim’s loved ones.

In the same way that a claim of personal injury can find a person, company, or property owner liable for an injury, so can a wrongful death claim find a person, company, or property owner, liable for a death.

Liability for wrongful death is unique to each individual case. For instance, if a driver under the influence caused a deadly accident, that driver could be held responsible for unlawfully driving while intoxicated. If a construction worker was killed on a job site because of employer negligence, the employer could be liable.

As a point of interest, a wrongful death claim can be filed in civil court even if a prosecutor has already filed a criminal case.
