Shuttle Bus Crashes at Newark, NJ Airport Terminal B, 13 Hurt

August 31, 2026

Newark, NJ (August 31, 2026) – Thirteen people were hurt on Monday, August 31, when an employee shuttle bus jumped a curb and struck a concrete wall at Newark Airport's Terminal B.

The Port Authority Police Department said the crash happened just after 3:00 a.m. on the Departures Level 3 roadway. Three people suffered serious injuries, though none are believed to be life-threatening. The other 10 people had minor injuries.

Due to police activity, departing Terminal B passengers are being asked to use the Level 2 drop-off instead. The Departures Level 3 roadway remains closed.

There is no information about what caused the bus to leave the roadway. Investigators continue to look into what led to the crash.

We hope everyone hurt has a smooth and full recovery.

Liability Questions After an Airport Shuttle Bus Crash in Newark, NJ

Shuttle Bus Crashes at Newark, NJ Airport Terminal B, 13 Hurt

When a commercial shuttle bus is involved in a collision, the investigation typically looks well beyond simple driver error. Federal and state regulations govern how commercial shuttle operators maintain their vehicles, train drivers, and monitor hours of service, and any gaps in those requirements can become central to establishing what caused the crash.

Because a shuttle bus is considered a commercial vehicle, claims that arise from a crash like this one may involve New Jersey's rules for common carriers, which generally hold operators to a heightened duty of care toward the passengers they transport.

When several people are involved in a crash, multiple claims are likely to move forward at once, and each one requires its own review of medical treatment, lost time from work, and long-term recovery needs.

To determine fault, the investigation typically examines whether a mechanical failure, driver error, or a roadway design issue contributed to the crash.

A personal injury lawyer can help injured passengers request maintenance and inspection records for the shuttle, obtain any available surveillance footage from the terminal, and evaluate whether the bus operator met its obligations as a commercial carrier under New Jersey law.

New Jersey generally allows two years from the date of a crash to file a personal injury lawsuit. However, when a government entity, such as the Port Authority, is involved in an accident, it follows a different and much shorter timeline. Injured passengers must formally notify the Port Authority of their claim at least 60 days before filing suit, and any lawsuit must be filed within one year of the crash.

At Metro Law, we help injured people across New Jersey understand how these overlapping rules might apply to each claim. If you have been involved in a crash like this one, we can review your case and walk you through your possible available options.
