Dump Truck Accidents in New Jersey

South Brunswick, NJ - Man Dead, Child Critical After Dump Truck Crash at Ridge Rd and Kingston Ln

The increased number of dump trucks on New Jersey’s roadways is an obvious contributor to the frequency of accidents involving these oversized construction vehicles.

Dump truck accidents can also be the result of:

  • Poorly trained drivers
  • Rollovers due to improperly or overloaded loaded truck beds
  • Incorrectly secured cargo
  • Reduced visibility/Large blind spots
  • Fatigued drivers
  • Driving maneuvers that are dangerous given the size of the vehicle
  • Improperly entering a roadway/Failing to yield
  • Insufficient vehicle maintenance

The injuries resulting from a dump truck crash are often quite serious for the occupants of the smaller vehicle. Dump trucks are considerably heavier and larger than many other vehicles, particularly when they are carrying construction materials or debris. In fact, debris falling off the back of a dump truck can cause an accident that doesn’t physically involve the truck at all.

Additionally, dump trucks are often backed across construction sites so they can dump the cargo where it needs to go. Taking into account their massive blind spots and decreased lines of sight, it’s no wonder that dump truck accidents take place with such alarming frequency.
