Passenger Injuries in New Jersey
It is not unusual for passengers to be injured in traffic accidents where the fault lies with the driver of the vehicle in which they were riding. For instance, the driver could be your child, parent, spouse, or another relative of the injured passenger. The victim might also be a coworker or a friend. As long as you are not on the same insurance policy, you have a valid claim.
Filing a claim of personal injury against a relative or good friend is awkward but passengers are permitted to pursue economic recovery when their injuries were caused by another’s negligence. In many instances, the negligent driver’s policy will cover the damages.
If you were injured as a passenger in a car accident, you are entitled to seek financial compensation for your medical costs and other damages just as an injured driver would be. This is true regardless of what or who caused your accident, whether it was driver negligence, vehicle defect, or a road hazard.
