SUV Goes Airborne, Lands on Two Cars on Livingston St in Norwood, NJ

September 3, 2026

Norwood, NJ (September 3, 2026) – On Wednesday, September 2, an SUV went airborne and landed on top of two vehicles on Livingston Street.

According to Norwood Police, a 59-year-old driver was heading north on Livingston Street around 8 p.m. when he reportedly pressed the gas instead of the brake as the traffic light ahead turned amber, police said.

His Ford Explorer was then broadsided on the passenger side by a sedan traveling west on Blanch Avenue, sending the SUV airborne. It landed on the roof of a vehicle stopped on southbound Livingston Street, then slid into a fourth vehicle and came to rest upside down.

Emergency units freed him from the wreckage, and he was brought to Hackensack University Medical Center with complaints of head and neck pain. Two other motorists were also hospitalized with similar complaints, while four additional people were treated at the scene.

Investigators are still working to determine exactly how the chain-reaction crash unfolded.

We hope everyone involved has a smooth recovery.

What Determines Fault in a Multi-Vehicle Collision in Norwood, NJ?SUV Goes Airborne, Lands on Two Cars on Livingston St

To determine fault in a multi-vehicle collision in Norwood, NJ investigators typically review traffic signals, vehicle positioning, and witness statements to establish which driver failed to yield or lost control first.

New Jersey follows a modified comparative negligence rule, which means that if a driver is found to be more than 50 percent at fault, they cannot recover damages.

Multi-vehicle collisions can leave occupants dealing with injuries that can range from whiplash and fractures to more serious head or spinal trauma depending on the forces involved. Recovery from these kinds of injuries can take weeks or months, and some injuries may not become apparent until days later.

When it comes to injuries, there is a very important step to take early on: medical evaluation. As mentioned before, some injuries do not develop symptoms until days or weeks later; so it is crucial to have a professional evaluate you even if you feel fine in order to avoid injuries worsening within days.

In addition, medical evaluation creates clear records that can serve as evidence for a potential claim. This is because this record connects directly the injury to the accident, and it can show clearly the consequences that the crash had on your life. All in all, prompt medical evaluation protects both your health and your rights.

There is other key evidence that can help determine fault after an accident. To gather them, many people turn to a car accident lawyer who can help collect police reports, vehicle data, and witness accounts to build a clear picture of what happened.

In these situations, it is common that insurance companies try to minimize their client's share of fault, so having legal guidance can help clarify what options are available and how compensation may be pursued.
