Dump Truck Accidents in New Jersey
Drivers in New Jersey are well acquainted with construction zones, which routinely cause construction vehicles and large trucks to be in close proximity to smaller vehicles attempting to navigate altered road patterns while avoiding loose materials and construction barrels. Due to the commonality of this situation, accidents involving dump trucks are one of the main causes of severe injuries and deaths out of all commercial vehicle accidents in New Jersey.
The team of lawyers that represent the commercial company that owns the dump truck or the construction company will begin their investigation immediately after a dump truck crash in an effort to minimize their liability for any damages resulting from the accident. This makes it imperative that you act equally quickly in hiring your own dump truck accident lawyer to study the scene of the accident scene and collect evidence that supports your version of events promptly after your accident.
In recent years, New Jersey’s population has ballooned. This means that our roadways are often overcrowded with drivers who are in too much of a hurry to notice. These factors combined cause streets and highways to need frequent expansions and repairs.
The increased number of dump trucks on the New Jersey roadways is an obvious contributor to the frequency of these accidents. Dump truck accidents can, however, also be caused by:
- Poorly trained drivers
- Overloaded truck beds causing a rollover
- Improperly secured freight
- Blind spots and reduced visibility
- Fatigued drivers
- Making turns that are dangerous given the size of the vehicle
- Failing to yield/Improperly entering a roadway
- Inadequate truck maintenance causing worn tires, non-working lights, et al.
The injuries resulting from a dump truck crash are often quite serious for the occupants of the smaller vehicle. Dump trucks are considerably heavier and larger than many other vehicles, particularly when they are carrying construction materials or debris. In fact, debris falling off the back of a dump truck can cause an accident that doesn’t physically involve the truck at all.
Additionally, dump trucks are often backed across construction sites so they can dump the cargo where it needs to go. Taking into account their massive blind spots and decreased lines of sight, it’s no wonder that dump truck accidents take place with such alarming frequency.
If you were injured in a dump truck accident, you should seek the guidance of a New Jersey commercial truck accident lawyer who has years of practice in identifying all relevant rules and regulations that could influence your case.
