Tuxedo, NY (September 08, 2022) – Police responded to the scene of a fatal wrong-way collision on the New York State Thruway on Tuesday, September 6th. 

All southbound lanes of the New York State Thruway were closed as officers launched an investigation into the deadly accident, which took place in the Town of Tuxedo in Orange County at about 1:00 a.m. 

State Police reported that one of the drivers involved in the incident was going the wrong way on the thruway between exits 15A and 16 in Sloatsburg and Harriman. The wrong-way driver crashed into a southbound vehicle, resulting in the death of both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their vehicles. 

The offending driver has been identified as 68-year-old George Gonzalez, a resident of Dumont, NJ. He was driving a 2017 Toyota Rav-4 northbound in the southbound lanes. 

Gonzales’ vehicle collided with a car being driven by 67-year-old Yehuda Weinstock, a resident of Chester. The impact caused both vehicles to go up in flames.

Both drivers were pronounced by the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office and removed from the scene.
