Two-Car Collision Leaves Three Hurt on Sherman Ave in Inwood, NY

August 21, 2026

Inwood, NY (August 21, 2026) – Three people, including a pedestrian, were hurt on Thursday morning, August 20, after a two-car collision on Sherman Avenue near West 204th Street.

The New York Police reported that a Corvette was traveling east on Sherman Avenue around 6:30 a.m. when it struck a Mercedes-Benz at the intersection. The Corvette then hit a 34-year-old pedestrian before coming to rest alongside a nearby building.

The Mercedes-Benz went on to strike a parked, unoccupied moped after the initial collision. The driver of that vehicle got out and left the area on foot, and police are still searching for that person.

The pedestrian was taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition. The driver of the Corvette and a passenger in his car were also taken to Harlem Hospital, where they were listed as stable. The driver faces charges of reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.

We wish a full recovery to everyone hurt in this collision.

Why Multi-Vehicle Crashes Can Complicate Liability in Inwood, NY

Two-Car Collision Leaves Three Hurt on Sherman Ave

When more than one driver may be at fault, sorting out liability becomes far more complex. This is especially true along stretches like Sherman Avenue, where higher speeds and heavy morning traffic can turn a single reckless maneuver into a chain-reaction event involving several vehicles and pedestrians.

A pedestrian struck after a vehicle-to-vehicle collision can sustain more severe harm than either driver, since they have no physical protection from the impact. Recovery in these cases can involve extended treatment, physical therapy, and time away from work.

New York follows a pure comparative negligence system, which means fault can be divided among multiple drivers based on each person's role in causing the crash. Even a driver who is found partly responsible can still recover compensation, though their award may be reduced by their assigned percentage of fault.

When multiple drivers are potentially responsible, and one leaves the scene entirely, identifying every liable party can take considerable investigative work.

A car accident lawyer can help gather police reports, witness statements, and any available video footage to help establish which driver or drivers contributed to the harm, and to what degree.

Sorting out fault after a crash that involves several vehicles is not something most people want to manage on their own. At Metro Law, our team is experienced in car accident cases, and we have guided many people in New York in the aftermath of a crash.
