Washington, N.Y. (June 7, 2019) – A woman has died after she was hit by a vehicle after getting out of her car on the highway, according to police. The fatal New York pedestrian accident occurred on Thursday, around 9:15 p.m., on State Route 82 near South Road.
Police say that the accident occurred when the victim, identified as 54-year-old Hope A. McLucas, of Pleasant Valley, stopped her 2006 BMW 325 on the southbound side of State Route 82 in her lane of travel. McLucas exited her vehicle after turning her hazard lights on to possibly help raccoons that were on or near the highway. She was standing in the northbound lane when she was hit by a northbound 2011 Toyota Tundra.
Emergency crews responded to the accident and checked McLucas, but pronounced her deceased at the scene. Police are still investigating the accident, and no criminal charges have been filed as of this article’s posting.
