Bethlehem, NY (November 4, 2025) – A tragic three-car crash on Interstate 87 in Bethlehem claimed the life of a 63-year-old Glens Falls woman on Saturday, November 1. The collision occurred just before 4:45 p.m. near Exit 23.
According to New York State Police, a northbound 2011 Chevrolet sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed in the left lane when the driver attempted to switch lanes, sideswiping a Ram pickup truck in the right lane. The Chevrolet then veered back into the left lane, where it rear-ended a 2025 Chevrolet sedan.
The impact pushed the 2025 Chevrolet into the guardrail. The driver, identified as 63-year-old Claudia Hargis-Grover, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in her vehicle was transported to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger in the Ram pickup were also taken to Albany Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
State Police confirmed that the driver of the 2011 Chevrolet showed no signs of impairment and tested negative for alcohol. He was transported to Albany Medical Center for evaluation and later charged with several vehicle and traffic law violations.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of Claudia Hargis-Grover during this challenging time.
Car Accidents in New York
Fatal car accidents like this recent one on I-87 highlight the dangers of high-speed driving and lane changes at highway speeds. In New York, car accidents remain a leading cause of serious injury and death, with hundreds of fatalities reported each year. Most of these incidents occur due to driver negligence, including speeding, distraction, and unsafe maneuvers.
Victims and families affected by these tragedies often face emotional and financial struggles. Understanding your rights after a collision can make a significant difference in the path to recovery. Those impacted by fatal crashes may have legal grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, which can help cover:
- Funeral and burial costs – Families often face significant expenses when arranging services for a loved one, including burial fees, transportation, and memorial arrangements.
- Medical expenses related to the crash – These costs can include emergency treatment, hospital stays, surgeries, medications, and ongoing care before the victim’s passing.
- Loss of income and financial support – When the deceased was a family’s primary earner, their death can lead to severe financial hardship due to the sudden loss of steady income.
- Emotional pain and suffering – Beyond financial loss, families endure profound grief, mental anguish, and the emotional toll of losing someone unexpectedly.
Working with an experienced wrongful death lawyer ensures that all responsible parties are held accountable. An attorney can gather critical evidence, negotiate with insurance companies, and fight for the compensation victims and families deserve.
