Clifton Park, NY – Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-87 SB Near Exit 11

Clifton Park, NY (November 26, 2025) – A deadly multi-vehicle crash shut down part of Interstate 87 on Sunday night, November 23, in Clifton Park. The New York State Police said the wreck happened in the southbound lanes just south of Exit 11. Troopers responded around 8:00 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious collision.

A preliminary investigation found that two vehicles traveled south on the highway. One vehicle rear-ended the other, which pushed the struck vehicle off the left shoulder. That vehicle then hit a guardrail. Moments later, a third vehicle hit the same car. The struck vehicle came to rest against the guardrail facing north.

Police said the driver of the struck car got out after the second impact. While he stood on or near the roadway, a tractor-trailer hit him. He fell into the driving lane. Another southbound vehicle then struck him again. Troopers pronounced the man dead at the scene.

State Police have not released the victim’s name yet. They said they will confirm his identity and notify the family first. Investigators also reported that the tractor-trailer involved in the crash left the scene. Officers have not located that vehicle or its driver. They are searching for witnesses and reviewing any available evidence to track it down.

New York State Police continue to investigate the crash and the hit and run tractor tractor-trailer.

We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s loved ones during this painful time.

Fatal Car Accidents in New York Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-87 SB Near Exit 11

Multi-vehicle highway crashes can leave families facing sudden loss and overwhelming stress. When a person dies in a crash, surviving relatives often deal with emotional grief and serious financial disruption. A wrongful death claim can help families understand what support the law may provide after a fatal collision.

Possible compensation in a wrongful death claim may include:

  • Medical expenses related to the victim’s final care, including emergency treatment.
  • Funeral and burial costs that the family must cover after the loss.
  • Lost income and benefits the victim would likely have provided over time.
  • Loss of household services, such as childcare, home care, or other daily support.
  • Loss of companionship and guidance suffered by spouses or close family members.
  • Conscious pain and suffering the victim experienced before death, if evidence supports it.

Each case depends on the facts. In a chain reaction crash, more than one driver may share fault. Investigators may review speed, following distance, lighting, and driver attention. If a tractor-trailer driver fled, police will also look harder at that driver’s role once they identify them. Evidence like dash cameras, traffic cameras, skid marks, and witness statements can help show what happened.

Families also sometimes face delays with insurance companies after fatal crashes. Insurers may argue about fault, policy limits, or the order of impacts. That back and forth can feel exhausting when grieving. A wrongful death attorney can help protect a family from pressure to accept a fast settlement that does not reflect the true loss.
