Jersey City, NJ – 4 Teens Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Wilkinson Ave

Jersey City, NJ (October 9, 2025) – Four teenage boys were hospitalized on Wednesday evening, October 8, after being struck by a sedan while riding two motorized mopeds on Wilkinson Avenue between Ocean Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, Jersey City police responded to the scene around 5 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving four juveniles, ages 13, 15, and two 17-year-olds. Investigators say the sedan that hit them fled the scene without stopping to help.

Emergency responders transported all four victims to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. Three of the teens remain hospitalized in stable condition, while the fourth has been released. Authorities later located the vehicle suspected of being involved in the hit-and-run, though details surrounding the driver’s identity and the cause of the crash have not been released.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances of this hit-and-run collision.

Our thoughts are with the injured teens and their families as they recover.

Hit-and-Run Accidents in New Jersey4 Teens Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Wilkinson Ave

Hit-and-run accidents are a serious problem across New Jersey, leaving victims injured and families searching for answers. In densely populated areas like Jersey City, where both vehicles and pedestrians share busy streets, these incidents can happen suddenly and often cause life-altering injuries.

Common causes of hit-and-run accidents include distracted driving, reckless speeding, unlicensed drivers, or individuals under the influence who flee to avoid arrest. In some cases, drivers panic after a collision and leave the scene, making it harder for victims to receive immediate help and justice.

When a hit-and-run accident involves minors, the consequences can be especially devastating. Victims may face broken bones, head trauma, or other catastrophic injuries that require long-term medical care. Families often struggle to cover hospital expenses, therapy costs, and emotional recovery after such traumatic events.

In addition to the physical harm, hit-and-run crashes often create lasting emotional scars for victims and their loved ones. Survivors—especially young victims—can experience anxiety, fear of traveling, and post-traumatic stress. Recovering emotionally is just as vital as healing physically, and many families seek counseling and community support to help rebuild confidence after such traumatic events.

New Jersey law allows victims of hit-and-run crashes to seek compensation through uninsured motorist claims or personal injury lawsuits once the at-fault driver is identified. These claims can help cover medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering, which is why it is crucial to have the guidance of a personal injury lawyer.
