Marlboro, NJ (October 14, 2025) – A tragic crash in Marlboro Township claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman on Saturday morning,October 11. According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago, the collision occurred around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Route 9 and County Route 520.
Investigators say the victim, identified as Sherril Sakas of Totowa, was crossing from the southbound to the northbound side of Route 9 when she was hit by a Honda CR-V. Marlboro Township Police and emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls.
First responders attempted life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, Sakas succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Honda, a 69-year-old man from Tinton Falls, remained at the location and cooperated fully with investigators.
Traffic along Route 9 was temporarily diverted as police conducted an accident reconstruction and cleared the area. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Marlboro Township Police Department are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Sherril Sakas during this heartbreaking time.
Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey
Pedestrian accidents continue to be a growing concern across New Jersey, particularly along busy highways. These incidents often result in severe or fatal injuries because pedestrians lack the protection that vehicle occupants have.
In communities such as Marlboro Township, where traffic congestion and high speeds are common, the risk of a pedestrian being struck rises significantly.
Pedestrian accidents can happen for many reasons, including:
- Drivers failing to yield at crosswalks or intersections
- Distracted driving caused by texting or mobile device use
- Speeding in high-traffic or residential zones
- Poor visibility due to lighting or weather conditions
- Pedestrians attempting to cross outside designated areas
When a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle, the consequences are often catastrophic. Victims may suffer multiple fractures, internal injuries, or traumatic brain injuries. In fatal cases, grieving families face emotional and financial hardship from medical bills, funeral costs, and the sudden loss of a loved one.
In such devastating situations, working with an experienced wrongful death lawyer can provide families the support and guidance they need. A knowledgeable attorney can help determine liability, collect evidence, and hold negligent drivers accountable.
Beyond financial compensation, pursuing a wrongful death claim can also bring a measure of justice and closure to families affected by tragedy.
