Newark, NJ (October 2, 2025) – Two people, including a police officer, are recovering following a crash that occurred on Wednesday afternoon, October 1, near Meeker Avenue and Route 27 in Newark.
The incident began when the officer, who was responding to an emergency, activated his lights and sirens. According to police, two vehicles ahead of the officer immediately pulled over to allow the officer to pass. However, a third vehicle attempted to go around the stopped cars and collided with the officer’s cruiser.
The officer and another driver involved in the crash were both injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, neither individual’s injuries are considered life-threatening, though both are expected to require some time to recover.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are working to determine if any additional factors, such as distracted driving or impaired driving, contributed to the collision.
The Newark Police Department has not yet released the identities of the individuals involved, but confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the officer and the other driver, and we wish them both a full and speedy recovery.
