Carlstadt, NJ (June 30, 2025) – Early Saturday morning, June 28, a serious crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Bergen County left multiple people injured when a car collided with a parked tractor-trailer. According to New Jersey State Police, troopers responded around 4:39 a.m. to the southbound lanes near milepost 114.7 on the western spur in Carlstadt.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a 25-year-old man from Paterson was driving a Honda Civic southbound when, for reasons still under review, the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder and struck a guardrail before crashing into the rear of a parked International tractor-trailer. The impact resulted in severe injuries for a 26-year-old man from the Bronx who was riding as a passenger.
Authorities reported that the driver from Paterson sustained moderate injuries while the driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries in the crash. Emergency crews responded quickly and provided aid at the scene. Both the driver and passenger of the Civic were transported to a nearby hospital for additional treatment. Traffic delays in the area were reported as police and other emergency personnel worked to clear the scene and conduct an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the collision. At this time, the crash remains under investigation by local authorities. Anyone with information is urged to contact the New Jersey State Police.
We hope that all who were hurt in this accident recover quickly.
Truck Accidents in New Jersey
Truck accidents across New Jersey continue to pose significant risks for drivers and passengers alike. Statistics show that commercial vehicle collisions are a leading cause of traffic delays and injuries throughout the state each year. Large trucks often share busy highways with smaller vehicles, creating dangerous situations when drivers are distracted, fatigued, or improperly parked. Staying alert and following safe driving practices are key to helping reduce the number of truck-related accidents on New Jersey roads.
Understanding how truck accidents can impact victims and their families is crucial. Below are some common causes that contribute to these tragic events:
- Driver Fatigue: Truck drivers often work long hours and may skip rest breaks to meet tight deadlines. Fatigue slows reaction times and impairs judgment, increasing the risk of serious accidents.
- Improper Parking: Trucks parked on highway shoulders without proper warnings or reflective gear can become deadly hazards for passing vehicles, especially in low-visibility conditions.
- Mechanical Failures: Faulty brakes, worn tires, or other mechanical problems can lead to catastrophic collisions. Routine inspections and maintenance are critical to prevent these failures.
- Distracted Driving: When truck drivers or other motorists are distracted by phones, GPS devices, or eating behind the wheel, their focus shifts away from the road, raising the likelihood of a crash.
- Inadequate Training: Some trucking companies fail to provide sufficient training for their drivers. Inexperienced operators may not know how to react in emergency situations, leading to preventable accidents.
