Skateboard Accidents in New Jersey
Fatal skateboard accidents remain a serious concern in New Jersey. Even a brief lapse in visibility or driver awareness can result in life-altering or fatal consequences. When a pedestrian, cyclist, or skateboarder shares the road with motor vehicles, safety depends on both proper lighting and responsible driving.
According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, pedestrian-related deaths account for a significant percentage of annual roadway fatalities. Many of these tragedies occur at night, where limited visibility plays a key role. Simple safety measures—like wearing reflective clothing or using well-lit paths—can reduce risks, but they do not eliminate the dangers caused by negligent or inattentive drivers.
Victims’ families in fatal collisions often face more than grief. They may experience unexpected financial burdens, including funeral costs, medical bills, and loss of income. In many cases, the family may have the right to pursue compensation through a wrongful death attorney who can help them understand their legal options.
Compensation in such cases can cover:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical costs incurred before death
- Lost wages and benefits
- Loss of companionship and support
Drivers must remain vigilant in residential areas, where both foot and skateboard traffic can increase. Failing to observe road conditions or pedestrian movement can have devastating consequences for everyone involved.
