Motorcycle Accidents in New Jersey

Maurice River Township, NJ - Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Rt 47 Near Main StMotorcycle accidents in New Jersey continue to result in a high rate of injuries and fatalities each year. According to state data, over 2,500 motorcycle crashes occur annually across New Jersey. These collisions often stem from visibility issues, reckless turns, or distracted driving. Despite motorcycles accounting for a small percentage of vehicles on the road, they make up a significant portion of traffic fatalities due to the lack of protective barriers riders have.

In light of this incident, it’s worth discussing some of the most common motorcycle crash injuries and why they can be so serious:

  • Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs): Even when riders wear helmets, the force of impact can cause significant brain trauma. TBIs can range from concussions to long-term cognitive impairments, impacting memory, coordination, and emotional stability.

  • Spinal Cord Injuries: Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable to back and neck trauma. A spinal injury can lead to partial or full paralysis, changing the course of a person’s life and requiring long-term care and rehabilitation.

  • Lower Extremity Injuries: Legs, feet, and hips are frequently hurt in crashes. Fractures, torn ligaments, and crushed bones often result from the rider being pinned or thrown during a collision.

  • Internal Injuries: The force from a crash can cause organ damage or internal bleeding. These types of injuries can be life-threatening if not treated quickly.

  • Road Rash and Skin Damage: When riders are ejected, the friction against the pavement can scrape away layers of skin, requiring skin grafts and leading to scarring or infections.
