Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey
Pedestrian accidents are among the most devastating types of roadway incidents in New Jersey. When a vehicle strikes a person, the results are often catastrophic due to the lack of protection pedestrians have compared to motorists. Busy roads see a steady flow of traffic, and even a brief lapse in attention can cause life-altering injuries.
Victims of pedestrian accidents frequently suffer from serious or catastrophic injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, broken bones, or internal bleeding. These injuries may require long-term medical care, rehabilitation, and time away from work—creating emotional and financial burdens that can overwhelm a family.
Common causes of pedestrian collisions in New Jersey include:
- Distracted or inattentive driving, especially when using cellphones
- Failure to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks
- Speeding or aggressive driving in residential or downtown areas
- Poor weather or visibility conditions
- Drivers making unsafe turns or ignoring traffic signals
In the aftermath of a pedestrian crash, it’s essential to seek immediate medical attention—even if you feel fine at first. Injuries can worsen quickly, as seen in this Summit incident. Victims should also report the accident to authorities and collect any available evidence, such as witness statements or photos from the scene.
