Elizabeth, NJ – Woman Killed in Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on NJ Tpke Ramp

Elizabeth, NJ (January 24, 2025) – A fatal crash occurred early Friday, January 24, on a New Jersey Turnpike entrance ramp in Elizabeth, leaving one person dead and six others injured. The incident, reported by New Jersey State Police, took place at approximately 12:55 a.m. on a curve near the ramp leading from the Goethals Bridge to Exit 13 toll plaza.

According to authorities, the car, carrying multiple passengers, had just exited the Goethals Bridge and was headed toward the NJ Turnpike when it was hit head-on by a car traveling in the wrong direction. The impact resulted in the death of 51-year-old Maria Flores, a passenger in the back seat. She was transported to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead due to her injuries. The driver of the vehicle sustained moderate injuries, while another passenger was treated for minor injuries.

The driver and three passengers of the wrong-way vehicle also sustained minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Emergency crews, including ambulances and fire department personnel, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Firefighters worked to extricate the vehicles from the crash site and ensure the area was secure. New Jersey State Police conducted traffic control and managed the flow of vehicles through the area while the investigation was underway.

The crash remains under investigation by the New Jersey State Police, who are working to determine the circumstances that led to the wrong-way driver entering the ramp.
