Bicyclist Killed in Multi-Vehicle Hit-and-Run on Bruckner Blvd in Bronx, NY

August 19, 2026

Bronx, NY (August 19, 2026) – A bicyclist died Tuesday night, August 18, after a speeding driver caused a multi-vehicle chain-reaction wreck on Bruckner Boulevard in the Longwood section of the Bronx.

According to New York Police, a black BMW struck two unoccupied vehicles before it hit a Hyundai Sonata and the cyclist. The force of the collision pushed the Hyundai into another vehicle, scattering debris across the roadway.

The bicyclist was rushed to a hospital but did not survive. The driver of the Hyundai was also taken to a hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Police said the BMW driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene, got into another car, and fled. Witnesses told police the BMW appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed before the initial collision.

Investigators continue working to identify and locate the driver.

Our condolences go out to the rider's family during this devastating loss.

How Do Wrongful Death Claims Work in the Bronx, NY?Bicyclist Killed in Multi-Vehicle Hit-and-Run on Bruckner Blvd

A wrongful death claim allows a deceased person's spouse, children, or other dependents to seek compensation when a crash in the Bronx takes their life. In New York, high-traffic routes see a steady mix of vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians, and fatal collisions along these roads tend to leave families facing sudden loss with little warning.

Beyond the emotional toll of a fatal accident, families can face funeral and burial costs, the loss of the deceased's income, and the loss of companionship and support that person provided. When the deceased was a primary earner or caregiver, these financial pressures can compound quickly in the months following the loss.

New York law generally gives a family two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim, and the case must typically be brought by a court-appointed representative of the estate on behalf of surviving family members. That deadline and the proper filing party can be easy to get wrong, which is why many families turn to a wrongful death lawyer to help them confirm who qualifies to bring the claim and how much time remains.

Wrongful death cases require identifying every possible source of compensation, which can include the at-fault driver's insurance, uninsured motorist coverage, or other applicable policies depending on the circumstances of each case. Legal guidance can help a family sort through these options and understand what evidence supports the claim as more facts come to light.

Losing a family member suddenly leaves little room to think about legal deadlines. At Metro Law, we are available to help families across New York understand their options after a fatal accident.

We can evaluate the details of your situation and explain what legal steps may make sense for you. If you want to clear your doubts, you can call Metro Law at (800) 469-6476.
