Bronx, NY – One Killed, Six Hurt in Multi-Car Crash on Bartow Ave

Bronx, NY (July 14, 2025) – One person lost their life, and six others suffered injuries after a three-car collision in the Bronx on Friday evening, July 11.

Police say the crash occurred around 5:25 p.m. near 2063 Bartow Avenue, close to The Mall at Bay Plaza in Co-op City. The Hyundai then struck an unoccupied vehicle.

The Hyundai Sonata was driven by a 38-year-old woman, who had an 11-year-old boy in the car. Both were hospitalized but are expected to recover.

The Acura RDX was driven by a 34-year-old woman. Her passengers, a 24-year-old man and a 31-year-old man, were also taken to Jacobi Hospital. All three are expected to be okay.

Eyewitnesses described the crash as loud and terrifying. One woman said the noise of the impact made her jump. Police have not made any arrests. The investigation into what caused this tragic crash remains active.

Our sincere sympathies go out to the family of the woman who lost her life, and we also wish a rapid healing to those recovering from their injuries.

Car Accidents in the Bronx

Battle-Mountain-NV-–-Injury-Crash-on-IR80W-at-MM-246New York City streets, including those in the Bronx, are often packed with cars, taxis, and pedestrians. This heavy traffic can increase the risk of crashes, especially at busy intersections like Bartow Ave. Multi-vehicle collisions often result in serious injuries and damage. Understanding the common causes of these crashes may help drivers stay safe. Here are some key risk factors:

  • Distracted Driving: Using a phone or eating while driving reduces reaction time and increases crash risk.
  • Speeding: Even a few miles over the speed limit can make crashes more deadly.
  • Elderly Drivers: Older adults may experience slower reaction times or impaired vision, affecting their ability to respond quickly.
  • Failure to Yield: Accidents often occur when drivers don’t yield while turning or merging.
  • Mechanical Issues: Brake failure or worn tires can lead to loss of control, especially in high-traffic areas.
