Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey

Pedestrian Injured in Hit-and-Run on Wickham St

Pedestrian accidents in New Jersey are often serious because people on foot have no protection against the force of a vehicle.

Busy neighborhood roads like Wickham Street can become especially dangerous when drivers ignore traffic laws or fail to remain alert. When a driver flees the scene, the difficulty for the victim grows even greater.

Common reasons for pedestrian accidents include distracted driving, speeding through intersections, impaired driving, and failure to yield the right-of-way.

At night, reduced visibility also increases risks for both drivers and pedestrians. Victims may face painful injuries, long recovery periods, and emotional distress after being struck.

The legal and financial consequences of these crashes can be severe. Victims often deal with:

  • Medical bills – After an accident, victims often face hospital stays, surgeries, and follow-up visits that quickly add up. Even with insurance, out-of-pocket costs can become overwhelming and place a heavy financial burden on families.
  • Lost income from missing work – Many accident victims are forced to take time off while they recover, losing wages in the process. In severe cases, they may be unable to return to their jobs at all, which affects long-term financial stability.
  • Ongoing pain that affects daily life – Physical injuries often leave victims dealing with chronic pain that lingers long after the crash. This discomfort can interfere with basic daily activities, reduce quality of life, and create lasting emotional stress.

When the at-fault driver leaves the scene, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney can help investigate the crash, identify responsible parties, and pursue compensation through insurance and civil claims.

Working with an attorney ensures that evidence is preserved, witness statements are collected, and deadlines for legal action are met. Having strong legal representation also helps protect victims from being pressured into low settlements by insurance companies.
